You want success in life? You want to live that perfect life you’ve always dreamt of? How are you going to attain it? What do you need to do to achieve the success you so desire? One thing you need to know is that most things that happen to us are not happenstance. They happen on purpose. When once you realize this, it will help you come to grips with yourself. You need to know that more often than not, one thing leads to another. The fact that you are in a particular situation today is an opportunity to improve on it and step up to the next level so instead of locking yourself up in your cage of fears and crying over spilt milk, past heartaches, embarrassment and failures treat them as your teachers and they will become your tools in self improvement and ultimately success.

To make it in life, you need to take action to succeed by working on the path of self improvement. The following are a few tips that will help you on your chosen path to self improvement and success:

  • How do you rate yourself? Do you see yourself as a failure or a success? If for any reason you see yourself as a failure then you must stop thinking and feeling so because you’re not. You must know that to be successful, you need to first and foremost accept yourself. Why? Simple! If you don’t, no one else will! Why would anyone else accept you if you can’t accept you?

  • How do you feel when you see celebrities and apparently successful people on TV or read about them in the Dailies? Or even meet them? Do you dwell on self pity instead of being challenged to take action to improve yourself? Always remember that those celebrities do not have two heads. They have one just like you and so if they could achieve stardom; it stands to reason that you also can. But they did not get to where they are overnight. Yes, they may have been smart but they were ready to put in long hours behind the scenes to improve themselves and ultimately achieve their goals. So, be willing to do what it takes to get to the place called success.

  • When you meet other people who feel down and low about themselves, what do you do? Do you help them to restore their confidence and move up? Or you turn the other way and pretend you never saw them? Help them, encourage them but don’t go down with them. Nor let them pull you down. You know it is easier to destroy than to build. So, go out there today and cheerfully help lift the spirit of another person.

  • Appreciate other people and the beautiful things around you. When you do so, you also become beautiful to others. You may not know it but the truth is that little acts of kindness, appreciation or interest mean a lot to many people. A lot of people leave their homes each day feeling worthless, so when you do simple things like greeting them, wishing them a wonderful day, helping them lift a bag of grocery, guiding them across a busy street or simply appreciating what they are wearing, you do not know but you could just be making such a difference in their lives! Remember, the golden rule: do unto others as you would want them do to you. So, go out there and appreciate somebody.

  • How do you take failure? Do you see failure as the end of the road or just the beginning of another? You need to know that mistakes are meant to be lessons and not the end of the road. Every failure is a chance to try again. Don’t feel stupid and doomed forever just because you failed the first time or even the second or third. Remember, there’s always a next time. Make room to improve on your failure and try as many times as it will take you to succeed. Self improvement is a one day at a time journey. So, see failure as a stepping stone and not a stopping stone!

  • Goal setting. Even at the risk of repetition, we can never stop emphasizing this point. Goal setting remains the master skill of success. So, you must set for yourself meaningful, achievable and measurable goals. Self improvement doesn’t make you a superstar overnight rather the aim is to achieve an improved and better you which will inevitably set you on the path of monumental success. So, if you’ve never set a goal, do so today and if you have; stick to your goals and take action to accomplish them.

  • The only constant thing in life is change. When you realize the need to and you are willing to accept change and go through the process of self improvement, you are undoubtedly So,on the path to success but it doesn’t mean that everyone else is ready and willing to accept same. People out there have different values and attitudes so, don’t try to change everybody else just because you have seen the benefits of changing you. Sometimes, even if you think you and your best friend always like to do the same thing together at the same time; don’t be shocked to see that your best friend may not see the need for self improvement. Just take action constantly and let him/her see the changes in your life. Remember: action always speaks louder and more convincingly than words. So ,do not try to change the world by only words, let your actions speak for you.

What are the benefits of self improvement? The results you get when you faithfully embark on this journey called self improvement are fantastic! Some are: inner stability, self confidence, self appreciation, self esteem, self worth and above all genuine, reliable and lasting success.

Finally and for the umpteenth time never ever think that there’s any such thing as lasting and real over night success. You must deliberately plan for it; you must be smart enough to recognize every opportunity that comes your way and be ever ready to meet success. You must be willing to take action to succeed no matter the cost. Success does not come to the slothful, it comes to the diligent. Remember the saying that “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” Unconsciously, people around you like your parents, friends, teachers, colleagues whether professional or at the office, neighbours etc help prepare you for success. They are your teachers. But you must recognize this and learn the necessary lessons. When you take these lessons to heart and begin to act on them by improving yourself, your chances to arrive at the destination called success becomes even brighter.
